You-Jin Kim is an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University whose research focuses on extending human interactivity in the blended world of physical and virtual objects. This encompasses a range of scientific and artistic pursuits, from augmented reality (AR) navigation and sensing technologies to more expressive and immersive theatrical virtual environments.
You-Jin Kim is also the director of the Dynamic Reality Lab (DRL), which specializes in human-computer interaction in wide-area augmented reality environments. Our primary aim is to enhance human interaction in the physical world through spatial computing techniques. We deploy a range of sensing technologies, such as EEG, EMG, and eye-tracking systems, to accurately interpret human behavior and optimize interactions within extended reality experiences.
Our work spans both scientific and artistic domains—from AR navigation and wearable technologies to immersive theater and interactive storytelling, including training applications. Additionally, we introduce and recommend new methods of interaction in augmented reality for content creators and engineers to easily utilize in crafting user experiences within augmented reality. We aim to broaden and expand human expression within virtual environments to enable a future where mixed reality is second nature to our daily life.
I'm interested in exploring new ways of interaction in immersive mixed reality. I strive to bring an immersive theater experience in augmented reality, designed for a wide-area outdoor environment. I envision a computational world that captures the delicacy of human communication and relationships. I like to infuse joy & play into the research and game world I make, where community and life can transverge.
My primary research interest lies in Mixed Reality (XR) + Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on interactive narrative and game design & development.
